Planning a Sea Ash Scattering in Florida: A Step-by-Step Guide

Back to all postsApril 26, 2026

Planning an ash scattering ceremony at sea in Florida doesn't have to be complicated. With the right guidance, the process is straightforward and the experience can be deeply healing for your family. Here's a step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Choose your service type. Ashes at Sea Florida offers two options — an attended service where family members join Captain Brad on the boat ($550 for up to 3 people, $50 per additional guest), and a non-attended service where Captain Brad performs the ceremony on your behalf ($425). Both services include GPS coordinates of the scattering location.

Step 2: Select your date and time. Morning departures are generally recommended for the calmest seas and most comfortable temperatures. Captain Brad monitors weather conditions and will reschedule if conditions are unsafe.

Step 3: Book online or by phone. Use our online booking form or call Captain Brad directly at (386) 401-9900. A $100 deposit secures your date.

Step 4: Prepare for the ceremony. Gather the cremated remains, any biodegradable flowers or mementos you'd like to scatter, and a music playlist if desired. Non-slip shoes and sun protection are recommended.

Step 5: Arrive at the departure point. Meet Captain Brad at 2455 Boat Ramp Drive, New Smyrna Beach, FL at your scheduled time. The boat ride to the 3-mile offshore location takes approximately 10–15 minutes.

Step 6: The ceremony. Captain Brad will conduct the ash scattering with care and reverence. You'll receive the exact GPS coordinates afterward, and an optional commemorative nautical certificate is available.

We serve families from New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Palm Coast, Orlando, and throughout Central Florida. Call (386) 401-9900 to begin planning.
